John M. Chrystaline, 94, Of Wallington

WALLINGTON, N.J. -- John M. Chrystaline, of Wallington, died Nov. 25. He was 94.

Chrystaline was born and raised in Wallington. He lived in Sewell for six years and recently in Florida for 20 years. 

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a dedicated Marine throughout his life. He was a mason contractor. He was a member and Trustee of the Wallington Presbyterian Church and a member of the Wallington V.F.W. Post 2640. 

He joined the Wallington Fire Department, Truck Co. 1 in February 1947 until retiring from active duty in September 1964, was an exempt member since 1954, lieutenant in 1954, captain in 1955, 2nd assistant chief in 1956, 1st assistant chief 1957 and 1960 and Chief in 1958 and 1961. He was one of only two members elected to serve as chief twice. He was a member of the NJ State Firemen's Association, both NJ State and Wallington Exempt Firemen's Association, South Bergen Fire Chief's Association and the Bergen-Passaic Exempt Firemen's League. He served as chairman on the Firemen's Memorial Monument Committee and the Firemen's Memorial Hall Committee. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Anne (nee Scott) Chrystaline; and companion, Helen Wicherski. 

He is survived by his chldren, Gail Chrystaline and Paulette Bednarz and her husband Chester; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and sister, Gertrude "Trudy" Kacmarcik. 

There will be a funeral service at noon Tuesday at the Kimak Funeral Home, 425 Broad St., Carlstadt. Interment will be in East Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
